Profile

I explore what lies deep beneath the surfaces of Earth and other rocky planets, using computer simulations to understand how these hidden worlds work.

My journey began with a background in materials science at Shandong University, where I studied how metals stay strong at high temperatures. Later, in Sweden at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Uppsala University, I used computational modeling to explore how copper behaves underground when used to safely store spent nuclear fuel. After completing my PhD, I moved to University College London to study how iron behaves under the extreme conditions found in the Earth’s core—an experience that sparked my fascination with planetary interiors.

Today, my research looks beyond the Earth’s core to include the lower mantle and the dynamic interactions between the core and mantle over vast stretches of time and space. I am also curious about what these processes might look like deep inside other terrestrial planets in our solar system and beyond.
