Surface and interface mechanics: shape morphing of coatings
We aim to use adaptive shape morphing to develop smart devices, which interact with surroundings through switchable topographies, adhesion, etc. The representative material we used is liquid crystalline polymer (LCP).
Soft actuators
Responsive materials, including hydrogels and liquid crystalline polymers, are used to develop soft robots with specific applications. For example, we use cholesteric LCP to develop actuators with synergistic color changing and shape morphing. Combined with magnetic actuation, LCPs are capable of sensing humidity in confined spaces.
